Knowledge — Active
Founded in memory of Saeeda Akhtar — whose grace and resilience through illness made clear what every healthcare system owes to every patient. Built to ensure the nurses at the bedside are prepared to honour it.
Why this name
In 2020, Saeeda Akhtar — mother of EHI's founder — faced COVID-19 with the kind of poise, grace, and quiet resilience that some people carry through the hardest moments of their lives. She left this world the same way she lived in it: with dignity.
What she encountered in the healthcare system around her was not always equal to that dignity. Not for lack of effort — but for lack of preparation. The clinical infrastructure, the training, the human capacity to meet a patient where she was — these were gaps that no amount of goodwill could close in the moment.
The Saeeda Akhtar Clinical Institute was founded in her memory — not as a memorial, but as a commitment. That the nurses who stand at the bedside of the next patient, and the one after that, are prepared for what they will face. That the care they give reflects the standard every patient deserves.
Co-founded with Dr. Zeina Khouri-Stevens in 2022, TSACI partners with hospitals across emerging markets to train nurses and allied health professionals — embedding clinical development inside the facilities where it has to happen, not in a classroom removed from it.
In memory of
Saeeda Akhtar
Who faced the end of her life with poise, grace, and resilience — and whose passing made clear, to the people who loved her, that the most important investment any healthcare system can make is in the human beings standing at the bedside. This Institute is her legacy.
"She left this world with dignity. This Institute exists so that every patient who follows her has someone prepared to honour that."
What TSACI delivers
TSACI does not run standalone courses. It partners with hospitals and healthcare facilities to embed clinical training into their operations — developing nurses and allied health professionals in the context where they work, not away from it.
Foundation
Basic clinical skills
Core clinical competencies for nurses and allied health professionals — standardised, assessed, and credentialed. Building the foundation that every other clinical skill sits on.
Advanced
Critical thinking & clinical decision-making
The skill most training programmes assume nurses already have. TSACI builds it explicitly — developing the judgement that determines patient outcomes in high-pressure, high-volume environments.
Development
Nursing profession advancement
Pathways that make local nursing expertise globally recognised — credentialing, accreditation support, and professional development frameworks built for the reality of nursing in emerging markets.
Workforce
Recruitment & placement
Connecting trained nurses with healthcare facilities that need them — closing the gap between education and employment that leaves so many qualified nurses outside the formal healthcare workforce.
Why nursing, first
The single highest-leverage investment in any healthcare facility is not technology, not management, not infrastructure. It is the clinical capability of its nursing workforce.
Nurses have the most patient contact of any clinical role. They make the most real-time clinical decisions. They are the first to notice when something is wrong and the people most likely to prevent a complication before it becomes a crisis.
In emerging markets, the nursing workforce is chronically undertrained, under-credentialed, and undervalued. TSACI exists to change that — one facility at a time, starting with the nurses already in the building.
Of patient contact in a hospital is with nursing staff — the highest of any clinical role
Global nursing shortage projected by 2030 — disproportionately affecting emerging markets
Investment most operators make last — TSACI makes it first, because the evidence supports it
Partner with TSACI
TSACI works directly with hospital leadership to design and deliver training programmes that fit operational reality — not programmes designed for a classroom that disrupt the ward for three weeks.
The model is partnership, not procurement. TSACI embeds into your facility, understands your clinical context, and builds a training programme around your staff, your patients, and your standards. The outcome is a nursing workforce that is more capable, more confident, and more likely to stay.
What a TSACI partnership includes
Clinical needs assessment — understanding where the gaps are before designing the programme
Bespoke training design — built around your facility's context, not a generic curriculum
In-facility delivery — training happens in your environment, with your patients and workflows
Assessment and credentialing — measurable outcomes, not attendance certificates
Ongoing development — not a one-time programme but a continuous improvement relationship
Work with TSACI
